LORD NATARAJA IS THE PEAK OF ARTS OF ICON

History is great and whatever that is done and got registered in it, is not just simple.

It is generally accepted by one and all that the iconography of “Lord Nataraja” is wonderful if seen either artistically or scientifically or philosophically.

“Darkness with ‘Live’ is termed as ‘Siva’ or else it is ‘Sava’ (dead)”.
We have started making such an icon of ‘Lord Nataraja’, which should be the tallest one in the world.

Eventhough we had such a plan sixteen years ago, this could become realistic now only with the assistance/cooperation of well-wishers and Maheswara’s blessings.

The 23 feet Panchaloha Nataraja idol has the following special features.

Out of the total height of 23 ft. the height of Nataraja, statue alone is 17
ft. and the height of Peedam (pedastal) is 6 ft.
The 51 Fire spots reflect 51 Aksharas suitable for Lord Siva.
51 Simhas, 56 Boodhaganas, 102 Lotus, 2 Mahara Birds do form part of
Thiruvachi (Arch).
Right upper and left upper hands carry Udukkai and Fire Pot respectively.
Front right hand with Serpent and Blessing Palm and front left hand in
the hanging position.
Right foot on the Demon and left leg in raised posture.
One side ear with ornament, leaving the other side with plain hole.
Hair is adorned with a skull, serpent, moon, flower, Ganga and a feather
of crane.

The dance with such adornment and scattered hair, is known as “SRI ANANDA THANDAVA”

‘Lord Nataraja’ icon is generally defined as follows: Natraja is the well known dancing form of Shiva. It has four arms and a body. Besmeared with ashes. The back arm on the right side holds the kettle-drum while the other presents the raised palm of protection. Of the pair on the left, the upper holds a fire and the lower is bent round across the breast to the right side.

His fingers gracefully pointing below, towards the left leg which is raised in a dancing posture. The ecstatic and violent nature of the dance described as ANANDA THANDAVA in the sequel.

Whirling quickly round on one leg, placed on the back of the demon. (APASMARA) is indicated by the matted hair stretching out on both sides of the head in wavy lines one above the other and by the cloth, partly tied round the waist and partly thrown over the left shoulder also flying in the air.
