Triton mCCR Training 7 to 22 MAY 2022

This is a narrative video covering AJ's crossover to the Triton CCR.

From 7 May 2022 through 22 May 2022, AJ completed the IANTD Advanced EANx CCR course on the M3S Triton chest-mounted rebreather, given by instructor Kurashina Yuichi from Dive Networks. The course was conducted in Izu, Shizuoka, Japan, and spanned several weekends. As you will see throughout the video, even with prior CCR experience from over a decade ago, skills are perishable, and if you don't use them, you can lose them.

The overwhelming majority of the buoyancy and trim issues experienced were caused by being severely overweighted at the beginning of the course. Time was not made prior to conducting a "minimum weight" check. Had that occurred, most, if not all, of the buoyancy issues experienced in the first few dives could have been prevented.

Regardless, a learning curve was still present, and there are a number of skills that admittedly need work and continued practice, which is discussed in the video. For any perspective CCR students out there, hopefully this video provides a small sample of what you can expect. There was far more material and dive skills during this course not covered in this video, such as academics, unit assembly, care, procedures, emergency procedures, etc. These are not present primarily because they weren't filmed, and further, when it's time to pay attention, it's not time to film.

I was thankful to have other individuals present during this course that could allow filming of the limited dive events that are present here, because video makes your personal review process much easier. It's one thing to be told what is happening underwater, and another entirely to be able to see if for yourself. Additionally, I'm very thankful to my instructor, The CCR Ninja, Kurashina from Dive Networks. I hope to practice and improve, and be as good on a unit as he is one day.
