The families of those killed in the Nottingham attack fought through their tears during a vigil in the city to share an extraordinary message of love conquering hate.
“Don’t have hate in your hearts,” Sinead O’Malley told a crowd of thousands who had gathered in the unrelenting sunshine. On Tuesday her daughter, Grace, had been murdered alongside a fellow first-year student, Barnaby Webber, at 4am after an end-of-term party.
Emma Webber, Barnaby’s mother, told the crowd the “monstrous individual who has shattered so many lives will not define us”, adding to applause: “This evil person is just that, he is just a person. Please hold no hate that relates to any colour, sex or religion.”
