Seeing a heavy train start, and kick up large amounts of smoke, is a sight to see! What makes it even cooler is when its done by classic, non turbo'd locomotives like an SD38-2. The amount of smoke these locomotives put out was a sight to see!
We'll start off at Proctor Yard, and see four locomotives heading down to Duluth to bring a taconite train back up Proctor Hill. Leading the way to the docks was DM&IR 215 the only Missabe painted unit still working for the CN in North America. Trailing was an SD40U, and two other SD38-2s; the last MIssabe SD38-2s on CN's roster. After the power comes down Proctor Hill, and ties onto its train at Collingwood, the smoke show begins! In an impressive display, ONLY the SD38-2s were online and roared to life with an immense amount of smoke. Due to the power idling for a while, LOTS of carbon had been built up. It was amazing to see the stacks get cleared out as the train roared by. After Collingwood, we'll see the train again at Spirit Mountain, screaming by in Run 8. Lastly, the train is seen rolling into Proctor Yard.
