Watch in high quality (480p). In this video, it shows the 2nd storm out of a series of storms that battered our area of San Jose, CA with gusty southerly winds and heavy rain this day of Sunday, December 23, 2012.
By morning of Sunday, December 23, 2012, this 2nd storm out of a series of storms finally arrived. This was the strongest storm out of the series of storms, ushering gusty southerly winds and heavy rains to much of the area throughout the day. This system came in from the Pacific, affecting us with stormy weather from Sunday and into Monday. This storm brought heavy rain throughout the morning and strong gusty winds to the Bay Area. A Wind Advisory was also posted for the Bay Area until 3 p.m. this day.
Our area first experienced rainy weather along with the slowly increasing southerly winds as this system's main front arrives. Coming around 9:30 a.m., the winds were now gusty, possibly a sustained 20-30 mph with gusts higher possible. Skies signaled a heavier rain band was now quickly approaching coming around nearing 10 a.m. East southeasterly winds were gusting up around at The Point Church.
Then the rains had finally come, which was coming down in big drops coming later in the morning. The winds were still continuing as the rain fell. You can hear the rain being windswept while I was driving. Then once the rains had lit up a bit, the winds appeared to strengthen a bit more. A wind advisory was posted for much of the Bay Area until 3 p.m. this afternoon. The strongest winds were measured around 37 mph at around 11:35 a.m. (around the urban locations, not including the hills/higher terrain). Then another round of rain came through as I headed back up to the church. The winds were really gusting at this time! It was already past 10:30 a.m....the time when our Sunday worship had started and I was still out and about...
It was like just passed 11 a.m. when I finally was in the church. I also saw the current radar on my iPhone. The wind and rain continued endlessly until the early afternoon hours. Windswept rain was seen from our old Filipino congregation room. Then coming around 2 p.m. or so, it got very dark and gloomy out, even during the broad afternoon hours! The very heavy rains arrived coming around 2:45 - 3ish p.m. The winds also have appeared to have changed direction to a northwesterly direction! Rainfall rates were possibly exceeding one inch per hour! Even our church's roof was literally a waterfall. No thunder/lightning though was encountered. I was really enjoying this weather as you can see me in the video.
The rain finally lit up coming later in the afternoon as the main rain band finally passed through. Despite the storminess, clearing was expected this evening and into the next day, which was Christmas Eve. However, there was another storm...sort of similar in strength but was relatively a fast moving frontal system, that arrived by Christmas Day. **However, footage of this 3rd storm system would be on separate video, due to a lengthy video this is already. Our area had received about 1.23 inches of rainfall on this day alone from this storm system!
Stay safe out there and have a safe and warm Merry Christmas and a happy new year!
