Have you ever wanted an exclusive designer’s look done without learning the special skills, only with simple machine sewing?
If you love wearing interesting and unique DIY refashions then this video on how to upcycle a man’s classic tailored jacket is for you! It’s on a genuine design I did for my first upcycled collection for the EFWA 2017. Find more similar fashion projects on my website: https://www.ecofashionsewing.com/.
This old tweed jacket I found in an op-shop warehouse in Perth, Western Australia (it’s a similar concept to Goodwill Outlets in US). The place is the last stop for all unsold in the thrift stores clothing and textiles before exporting them overseas or sending to landfill. It was a great quality wool tweed, no holes or other damages. Only boring classic cut man’s jacket.
To create the new design, I used an upcycling technique which I call ‘upside-down’. It is a very interesting way for repurposing the whole garment or parts of it ‘as is’ and incorporating them into the new design, as is with no significant changes. That’s why it is very simple to apply. You don’t do big modifications, nor you need to have dressmaking or tailoring skills. See it for yourself. You’ll love it!
Check out my other YT videos on this concept showing other refashions following this method.

Happy upcycling!
