WARNING: Contains bullets fired into gelatin as well as dissection of shot pork ribs and pork shoulder (you've seen worse on the Food Network, but be warned).
Many are the claims regarding Glaser's Silver Safety Slugs. They are designed to fire 80 grains at 1500 fps in order to stop attackers yet under-penetrate barriers such as glass, dry wall, sheet metal, etc. Legend claims the rounds were carried by US Air Marshals in the 1980s. The silver tips, shown here, contain number 6 bird shot that releases from the jacket after the polymer tip is destroyed upon impacting a target.
We demonstrate the following:
shot through 1 interior wall at water jug
shot through 2 interior walls and resultant pattern
shot through 2 interior walls at water jug
shot at pork ribs and pork shoulder
shot through pork ribs into ballistic gelatin
The gelatin was tested with a different round prior to Glaser's and from the opposite direction. As you see, it does not effect the fascinating results.
What do you think? How "safe is this round indoors?
This video gives no insight into to the "stopping power" or "safety" of the Glaser's 9mm Silver Safety Slug. The tests performed are meant only to offer limited perspective regarding the manufacturer's claims.
Looking for a home defense ammunition that's right for you? The results seen here are merely a curiosity. They are neither scientific nor informative.
