Doing Rights Right 2025: Imprint Directory/Find A Rights Holder Demonstration

Brian O'Leary, BISG's Executive Director, provides a "behind the scenes" demonstration of BISG's new "Find A Rightsholder" directory.

Please note, this tool is still under development and may look and work differently than demonstrated in this video.

Find a Rightsholder is an easy-to-use search tool for anyone seeking rights or permissions for content published by US and UK publishers. Two things to keep in mind:

1. As of Spring 2025, this search tool is a work in process. We have collected imprint ownership and contact information for more than 3,500 imprints, including hundreds of imprints that are difficult to find elsewhere because they are inactive or defunct. We know there are many imprints and companies we have yet to add. If you’re responsible for an imprint we have not yet included, please send us your information! We'll confirm receipt, verify the details, and add your information to the database.

2. This is a contact database, and things change. If you find an invalid mail or link, or if you learn that the information we have is out of date, please let us know! We'll track down the correct information.

We're trying to remove roadblocks that might limit requests for rights and permissions, and we look forward to expanding this database, with your help. Use of this database comes with limited liability for BISG, and we outline our position at bisg.org/legal.
