In this special episode of Hometown Heroes, hosts Rick Irving and Mary Staffeld pay tribute to the incredible life and legacy of Don Graves, a WWII Marine, Iwo Jima Survivor, and proud American patriot who turns 100 years old on May 3, 2025.
While Don isn’t a guest on this episode, we’re honoring him by sharing powerful stories about his service, sacrifice, and the lasting impact he’s had on our community. From storming the beaches of Iwo Jima as a flamethrower in the 5th Marine Division, to surviving one of the fiercest battles in Marine Corps history, Don's life is a testament to resilience, courage, and unwavering faith. Of the 335 Marines in his battalion, only 18 survived — Don was one of them.
Today, Don continues to inspire others through his words, his witness, and his patriotism. Join us as we reflect on his journey and celebrate this living legend in the days leading up to his 100th birthday.
