Composer’s Comments:

“KMnO4 (Acidified) is used for strong oxidation reactions in chemistry. It is often used to break (cleave) the double bond of alkenes. The sounds in this piece are derived from various byproducts of this reaction. Cutting sounds for the cleaving, a drunken swaying for alcohols, sounds of gas and bubbling for carbon dioxide and water. The reaction is violent, powerful and chaotic, so the song is as well. Each section represents one of the possible reactions that can occur using this reagent; I’ll leave the more science-savvy listeners to decide how these are connected by themselves.

One can certainly consider this a sequel to u7228. I made this while extremely frustrated by studying for a Chemistry exam. I hate Chemistry with a burning passion, but I was forced to take it for various academic reasons. While studying I could not cram any more information in my head and felt like I was going insane, so instead of studying for the test (since I had always failed my Chemistry tests anyway), I made this satire song to express my hatred instead.

That was the first Chemistry exam I had ever passed, and I got an A.”
