After a fairly snowy morning here in Sussex, the snow would clear just in time for Clan Line to grace previously untouched metals for her class. Bulleids are rightfully synonymous for operating along Southern metals however Merchant Navy’s were never utilised to take trains down to the Sunshine Coast. That long wait would end today with 35028 ‘Clan Line’ becoming the first member of her class to reach Eastbourne.
After leaving London Victoria, she’d weave her way through London before being able to stretch her legs on the Brighton Mainline. She’d take a break at Haywards Heath before continuing on until reaching Keymer Junction where she’d head onto the Eastcoast Way. This is where we first capture 35028, on a foot crossing inbetween Berwick and Polegate. A two hour layover would occur next given us the opportunity to closely explore the engine as she’d pose beautifully at Eastbourne Station. From here the tour would be diesel hauled to Hastings where we capture the tour leaving a red signal at Willingdon Junction. This would enable 35028 to be leading out of Hastings and up the Hastings Line where she’d make light work of the gradient through my local station: Stonegate.
