Lion Charge Tourists on Walking Safari in Kruger National Park.

These safari tourists opted for a Game Walk instead of a Game Drive and approached a mating pair of Lions when the Lion suddenly charged.

At first the male lion gave a short charge but lost his nerves and looked back to see if the lioness was backing him up.

She was not. One can see her in the background for a second or two.

The fact that the tourists stood their ground also confused the Lion. Never run when a Lion charges - he will see you as food and will give chase.

This ranger handled it well and probably had a quick talk, explaining the rules when walking in a big 5 game reserve with his clients before the walk started.

Suddenly the Lion charged again - this time with more intent.

The safari go-ers again stood their ground and with a loud shout, the Lion stopped and returned to the Lioness.

The ranger then keeps on talking with an elevated tone of voice so the Lion knows his position and won't consider them as a possible threat.

Never run when a Lion charges.

Kruger National Park is a South African National Park and one of the largest game reserves in Africa. It covers an area of 19,623 km2 (7,576 sq mi) (almost The Size of Wales) in the provinces of Limpopo and Mpumalanga in northeastern South Africa, and extends 360 km (220 mi) from north to south and 65 km (40 mi) from east to west. The administrative headquarters are in Skukuza. Areas of the park were first protected by the government of the South African Republic in 1898, and it became South Africa's first national park in 1926.

To the west and south of the Kruger National Park are the two South African provinces of Limpopo and Mpumalanga, respectively. To the north is Zimbabwe and to the east is Mozambique. It is now part of the Great Limpopo Transfrontier Park, a peace park that links Kruger National Park with the Gonarezhou National Park in Zimbabwe, and with the Limpopo National Park in Mozambique.

The park is part of the Kruger to Canyons Biosphere, an area designated by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization as an International Man and Biosphere Reserve
