This haunting melody has been attributed to the legendary Irish bard, Turlough O'Carolan (1670-1738). O'Carolan was a blind Celtic harper who spent most of his life traveling from one end of Ireland to the other, composing over 200 songs for patrons, and earning his reputation as the last of the wandering Irish bards. He is considered by many to be Ireland's national composer.
For this cover, I am using my Nord Stage 3 to layer the sound of a harp and a cello together. You will also hear a bridge section starting at 1:15 that was not a part of the original composition, but was composed in 2020 by Keiko Sassa. If you are a gamer, and you owned an HP laptop in the mid 2000's, you might remember this tune from the dungeon crawler video game "FATE."
