The New York Pops Orchestra commissioned arranger Fred Barton to create an all-instrumental symphonic version of the song "Cabaret" in honor of singer Marilyn Maye, who was the first to record the song and make a hit out of it, before the Broadway show opened.
The New York Pops, under the baton of Steven Reineke, played the new arrangement at Carnegie Hall in "The Marvelous Marilyn Maye," her historic solo concert with the orchestra, to a sold-out house in March, 2023.
