🌐 IPv4 vs IPv6 - What’s the Difference? 🌐
As the world moves towards more internet-connected devices, we need to upgrade how these devices communicate. Here’s a quick look at the differences between IPv4 and IPv6.
🔹 IPv4 uses a 32-bit address system, which gives us around 4.3 billion unique addresses. It’s been around since 1981 and looks like this: 192.168.0.1.
🔹 IPv6, on the other hand, uses a 128-bit system, which provides 3.4 x 10^38 unique addresses! That’s a number big enough to give every device its own unique address. IPv6 looks more complex, like this: 2001:0db8:85a3::8a2e:0370:7334.
Other key differences:
IPv4 has limitations, leading to addresses eing reused. IPv6 doesn’t have this problem.
IPv6 allows for faster, more secure internet connections.
Both IPv4 and IPv6 can run together using something called a dual-stack system.
As more devices get connected, IPv6 will play a major role in our digital future.
