A complete realisation of Feldman's 'Piece for Four Pianos' (1957), played by John Tilbury, Philip Thomas, Catherine Laws & Mark Knoop.
The pianists play the first chord together, but then make their way through the single page score at their own pace, so the timing / placing of each gesture is open.
This recording was one of the takes made in 2014 for the double CD 'Two Pianos and other works 1953-1969', which was released on Another Timbre in late 2014. A different take was selected for the album, but this realisation was kept because one of the pianists preferred it. The recording was rediscovered in 2025 when the label's website was being re-launched.
