Located in the heart of the French Quarter, the New Orleans Storyville Museum has over 7,000 square feet of immersive exhibits dedicated to preserving and showcasing the rich cultural heritage of New Orleans and Storyville.

We came to visit last week and we had such a great time last week at It was so good that we also came back again to visit them for a 2nd time this week.

They did an outstanding job and we wanted to give a big thank you to the museum for spending time with us and giving us a tour of this MUST SEE and DO experience here in the French Quarter!

"To understand Storyville, we must first understand the history of New Orleans."

The museum introduces its guests to Storyville through a full scale map of the United States as divided by its lifeblood and main thoroughfare, the Mississippi River. French explorer René-Robert Cavelier, Sieur de LaSalle, discovers Louisiana and the city of La Nouvelle Orléans is founded by Jean-Baptiste de Bienville in 1718.

Bienville asks the France to "send me wives for my men, they are running into the woods after Indian girls." Women of dubious morality are shipped to New Orleans, including the infamous casket girls who traveled with their belongings in casket-like trunks, one of which is on display.

"Comprehensive & Immersive Experience!"

This was such a comprehensive and immersive experience. Living in New Orleans, it’s amazing to see how the sex trade has influenced so much of how the city grew up. You can see the imprint of Storyville and other red light districts in the city’s layout, as well as the advent of jazz music and even cases heard before the Supreme Court.
​
In particular, it was awesome to get to read an interactive version of the Blue Book and see all the physical artifacts from the city’s bordellos - not to mention the living history pieces with video and the optical illusion in the parlor. Just really impressive from start to finish.

If you visit, plan for about an hour to give yourself time to see everything without rushing.
