Thabo Senong arrived in Bulawayo, Zimbabwe, on January 5, 2026, to officially begin his tenure as the new head coach of Highlanders FC.

As of January 23, 2026, Thabo Senong has not yet secured his work permit for Highlanders FC and is currently back in South Africa awaiting its processing. The club is confident the permit will be issued soon, but recent reports suggest his position as head coach may be in jeopardy due to sponsor demands for a different coach.

Zimbabwean immigration officials instructed Senong to leave the country to avoid breaching the conditions of the visitor's visa he used to enter Zimbabwe.
