在檳城沒車的開學日| 天沒亮就出門了 First Day of School in Penang

大家好，這是找點小樂子的頻道 @vivijoyhi 。一個在台灣生活十年的上海女生。我們全家在2025年做了一個重要的決定，選擇移居大馬檳城了。消費降級，生活升級，爲了孩子的教育，也爲了一個不確定和有趣的人生新篇章。

今天學校開學日，天沒亮就坐校車出門，好像有點披星戴月地感覺，沒辦法，誰叫我們還沒有車呢？ 在檳城沒車不管是吃東西還是買東西，對於國際家庭來説就是綁手綁脚，我們通過問大馬的朋友，遇到Grab司機，和印度、大馬、華人的司機聊天，發現大家認可的品牌和對油車電車的看法各有立場。對於車這個人均擁車1.5台的檳城來説，聽起來都很有見解。

Hi guys! Welcome to my channel, @vivijoyhi — where we find little joys in big life changes. I’m a Shanghai girl who survived 10 years in Taiwan, and in 2025, my family decided to level up life by… spending less money and moving to Penang, Malaysia.

Today was the first day of international school . Before the sky even got light, we were already heading out on the school bus — it really felt like we were leaving under the stars and the moon.

This is part of our real Penang life now. But what can we do? We don’t have a car yet. When it comes to living in Penang, not having a car makes daily life — eating out, grocery shopping, and school routines — much more challenging, especially for an international family like ours.

Through conversations with Malaysian friends, chatting with Grab drivers, and talking with Indian, Malay, and Chinese drivers, we’ve heard many different perspectives on cars in Malaysia. Everyone seems to have their own trusted car brands, and strong opinions about petrol cars vs electric cars in Malaysia. In a place like Penang, where the average household owns about 1.5 cars, these insights come from real everyday experience.

There’s really no right or wrong — only what suits your lifestyle best. As part of our expat life in Malaysia, we’ll likely need to choose between a petrol car and an electric car first, and then test drive both Japanese brands and local Malaysian cars to see what feels right for our family life in Penang.
