Diphthongs are a combination of two vowels in one syllable. There are five diphthongs in American English:
/eɪ/ as in ‘day’
/oʊ/ as in ‘go’
/æʊ/ as in ‘now’
/ɔɪ/ as in ‘toy’
/aɪ/ as in ‘my’
