Hi everyone,
In this video, I go through a sample 10-minute home exercise program if you've had a rib fracture, contusion (bruise) or strain.
Of course, the level of severity will influence how difficult these exercises reviewed will be.
As such, it is important to make modifications and changes based on what you can and can't tolerate and use pain as a guide.
I wanted to make a video where I do the repetitions and exercises will you entirely, to allow you to follow along and have a reference video to refer back to.

Everybody will present differently as well, especially if you have underlying past medical history, associated injuries and trauma as well as different stages of your recovery.
Regardless, here are 5 exercises that can be utilized as part of a program to assist with decreasing complications following a rib injury and improve respiratory health and mobility.
These are not evidence-based, just anecdotal, that aim to work on breathing, lung health and mobility of your thoracic and chest wall region.
1. Diaphragmatic Breathing
2. Splinted Coughing
3. Shoulder flexion
4. T Spine Extension
5. T Spine Rotation.
The premise is to keep it simple. 5 reps of 2 sets for a total of 10 sets (2 rounds of each exercise). 15 second break in between each exercise and 30-60 sec break between each circuit. This can vary based on symptoms and what you can tolerate.
