In this masterclass, Fischer took down the formidable Efim Geller with ease after Geller failed to follow basic opening principles in the Ruy Lopez. From the start, Geller’s reluctance to develop his kingside pieces and castle left his position critically vulnerable. Fischer quickly seized on these weaknesses, opening up the center and exposing Geller’s uncastled king to a ferocious attack.
Geller’s passive play became increasingly punished as Fischer mobilized his forces with pinpoint accuracy. The breakthrough came as Fischer opened the center, where Geller’s uncoordinated pieces were no match for Fischer’s active, well-placed army. Fischer's play was precise and relentless, ending the game in a dominating fashion.
