On Friday, May 3 I got out for a few hours of evening kayak fishing at Hoover Reservoir in Columbus, Ohio. I caught a good number of white and black crappie, as well as a couple bluegill. I was fishing with 2 ultralight rods, one with a 1/64 oz jighead and a trout magnet soft plastic lure, and the other with an off-brand rooster trail lure. My kayak is an Ascend H10.
For conditions the air temperature was around 82 degrees. I did not have a thermometer to measure the water temperature but based on USGS data I believe it was likely between 62 and 65 degrees on the surface.
I located the crappie in shallow water, tightly holding to shoreline structure. They are definitely in their spring pattern, and I expect them to hold in these areas for the next 4-6 weeks before they begin to return to deeper water in the heat of the summer.
There’s very little talking in the video and it has a peaceful/relaxing vibe. Kinda sorta ASMR? I didn’t necessarily intend that, but I like it!
Thanks for watching!
