In this video I restored an old Coffee Grinder, made by 'Clarks & Co.' in England
Age: I guess it´s age to 80-100 years
Restoring time: - around 3 weeks
Facts:
This beauty was made in England, and came with a 'Japanning' Finish. Since there were threads everywhere, i wasn´t able to restore the knob in its original way.
Techniques/materials:
For this restoration I chose two main techniques: hot bluing and 'Japanning'.
I chose hot bluing, because it´s the most natural way of bluing, without using strong chemicals. Why? Because the coffee beans get in contact with the grinder, so I wanted to have it in food grade quality.
'Japanning' is a technique, close to powdercoating, but ways older. You mix tar with turpentine and linseed oil, let it sit for a week, brush it on the bare metal and put it in the oven. After baking in 5 steps the result is pretty resistant and deep black.
I hope you have fun with the video! If you have any questions on the used tools, materials or the processes, write it in the comment section - i´ll try to answer as soon as possible!
