🌞 Thursday 4th December — Ireland or Ibiza? Who Could Tell!
Sun, sun and more sun! No, your screen isn’t glitching — this wasn’t Spain, Lanzarote, or somewhere with palm trees and cocktails — this was County Limerick Ireland in December. Yes, December. I know, I almost needed photographic evidence myself.
The day practically shouted, “Get on your bike!” and being a responsible adult who listens to the important voices in life (particularly those coming from the shed), I was out the door quicker than Santa’s elves clocking off on the 26th.
It was a tad cool, but wrapped in the legendary Southside Wheely Wheelers winter kit, I was snug, stylish, and aerodynamic enough to convince myself I looked fast — even if the farm dogs disagreed.
I took a wander down a few boreens I haven’t visited for a while — like old friends that don’t ask awkward questions about where you’ve been or why you haven’t called. Perfect little roads for a winter spin and an ego-boosting downhill or two.
With Christmas only weeks away, getting the kilometres in now is vital training — not for racing — but for the festive eating and the mighty task of lifting pints with fellow cyclists over the coming weeks. We must keep the upper body conditioned, after all.
After a few hours of sunshine, fresh air, and convincing myself I’m still fit, I arrived home delighted with life and already planning the next adventure — assuming the weather behaves and we don’t return to the usual four Irish seasons in ten minutes.
