Here we sketch two parent functions: y=k (some constant k) and y=x (the linear function)
This seven video series shows sketches of the ten most common parent functions. Parent functions can be thought of as basic "building block" functions which other more complicated functions can be constructed, frequently by multiplying (squash or stretch) or by adding/subtracting (translating along the coordinate plane), or by multiplying by a negative (which flips the graph upside down). Knowing what the basic parent functions look like can help when working with more complicated functions.
