Family & friends gathered at the Legacy Centre of Excellence in Newtown, Birmingham, to remember and celebrate the life of the late Deborah Thomas in the Jamaican tradition, 'Nine Nights'.

Nine Nights also known as Dead Yard and a Set-Up originated from West Africa migrated to parts of the Caribbean islands, intended to take place upon the 'ninth night' after death. It allows gathered friends and family to offer support to the family usually involving story-telling, music, dancing, food & drink. Some include prayers and rituals, believing it takes nine nights for the spirit to reach it's journey.

The Legacy Centre of Excellence in Newtown near Aston, Birmingham is a large capacity venue with a second smaller venue on the above floor. Easily accessible just outside the city centre on the A34 Walsall Rd and intersecting
Potters Lane by the landmark feature Victorian ornate Barley Mow public house.
