Reality - Realities, Designerly Actions to Foster the Physicality of Knowledge.
We are aware that reality, as we perceive it, is subjective; culture and location are some of the elements that shape our being. Accepting our roots and context are critical elements to our lifestyle and design professionalism. Through body movement and time, emotions are translated into intangible/visible elements, which helps enhance students’ self-reflection and engage in collective awareness. Furthermore, these actions foster the physicality of knowledge as a set of automatisms incorporated in the body.
Where should we position the social/virtual/physical body in the design education curriculum?
How can design teach kids complex topics like mental wellness and/or accepting their roots?
Should we integrate a ‘Designerly’ teaching and practice-based research approach into every school level?

Tommaso Maggio is an Artist, designer and PhD researcher on experimental arts/design education methods. Tommaso has twenty years of professional experience managing, coordinating and implementing multicultural practice based-research projects, including intervention focusing on early childhood and lifelong education. Visual Communication Lecturer at Birmingham Institute of Fashion & Creative Art (BIFCA) Faculty of Arts, Design and Media Wuhan Textile University & Birmingham City University, PhDc University of Plymouth, UK; Resident Artist Thai - Italian Chamber of Commerce.
