The original movie sees the baby of American diplomat Robert Thorn played by Gregory Peck die at birth only to be replaced at the suggestion of a hospital chaplain with another baby who's mother died in childbirth. The swap is completed without his wife's knowledge.

Unknown to them all is that baby Damien is the son of Satan and the Antichrist prophesised in the Bible.

As Damien becomes a child, and with his father posted as US Amabassor to the United Kingdom, sinister events unfold and people around Damien begin to die.

While the movie received mixed reviews from critics it was a commercial success and remains a chilling horror film to this day.
