Fast Doors + Interesting…Motor? | OTIS (mod. ThyssenKrupp) @ 12–14 O'Connell Street, Auckland CBD

One of the more forgettable ThyssenKrupp mods. Judging by the door tracks and V-key, the OTIS lifts that were here before were likely from the late-70’s / early-80’s. Not a whole lot to go on about the fixtures when they’re just LCD indicators and Dewhurst US95 buttons.... Though as a somewhat defender of Dewhurst in recent years, I will concede that US95 and US96 buttons do look cool with their light-up braille which you don’t get in many other button styles! I suppose they’re only perceived in a negative light because of how commonplace they are, because otherwise, they can look cool when used right! (Not really here, though.) Nevertheless, the lifts are still interesting mechanically, as the door close works instantly after they open (not like there’s anything I need to dodge lol), and the motor sounds… interesting? I’m not even sure if that’s the lift motor or not, as it comes on when the elevator leaves the ground floor, and…doesn’t seem to power off? Or if it does, it’s very subtle. Other than that, these elevators look pretty standard, but I suppose they’re decent enough.
