HP MicroServer ProLiant Gen8 setup with ESOS Enterprise Storage OS
Remove all RAID volumes defined in Smart controller BIOS setup (F5)
Enable SATA AHCI support in the bios (F9)
Identify Host IQN (Windows 11)
iSCSI Initiator Properties → Configuration Tab
Initiator name: iqn.1991-05.com.microsoft:deskromi7634
Save in notes as Initiator 1 iqn
Example:
Initiator 1 iqn:iqn.1991-05.com.microsoft:deskromi7634
Add Target
Targets-Add iSCSI Target
New Target Name (no spaces): ...
We accept name as given by pressing enter.
Save in notes as Target 1 iqn
Example:
Target 1 iqn: iqn.2025-10.esos-localhost:ecacc
Create a Group
Hosts-Add Group
Select Target 1 iqn
New Group Name (no spaces): group1
Press Enter
Add Initiator
Hosts-Add Initiator
Select Target 1 iqn
Select group1
Initiator Name (no spaces): Initiator 1 iqn
Press Enter
Add Device
Devices-Add Device
Select:vdisk_blockio
Select block device: md127...raid5
SCST Device Name (no spaces): scst_md127
Select OK

Map to host group
Devices-Map to Host Group
Select SCST device: scst_ms127 (Handler: vdisk_blockio)
Select SCST target: Target 1 iqn
Choose a Group: group1
Mapping SCST device...
Logical Unit Number (LUN): 1
Select OK
Enable target
Targets-Enable/Disable Target
Choose a SCST target: Target 1 iqn
Select: Enabled (1)
Select OK
Sync Configuration
System-Sync Configuration
Reboot server
Interface-Exit to Shell
enter: reboot
Press enter
Connect to ESOS from MS Windows 11
Open "iSCSI Initiator"
In Targets tab press Refresh
You should see Target 1 iqn in list
Select target
Select Connect
Select OK
Status should be Connected
Initialize and Format the Disk
Open Disk Management (diskmgmt.msc)
Locate the new disk (labeled "Offline" and "Not Initialized")
Right-click the disk → "Online" → "Initialize Disk"
Note: You will probably not need the above two steps as by default You
will get a Initialize Disk prompt
Choose GPT (recommended for modern Windows) or MBR (legacy)
Right-click the unallocated space → "New Simple Volume" → Follow the wizard to format (NTFS recommended)
Check for drive in File Explorer
If disc is there test:
Copy to
Copy from
Delete
Rename
Reboot client computer
Confirm target connection is restored automatically
