Gaharpur-Balaganj, Sylhet's Qorbani Garur Hat is known as a traditional and important animal market. Every year before Eid-ul-Azha, a large number of sacrificial animals are bought and sold at this market, which plays an important role in the local economy.

Historical Background of Gaharpur

The Gaharpur region occupies an important place in Islamic history. In 1303, the companions of Hazrat Shah Jalal arrived in Sylhet and spread Islam. Among them, Shah Aziz Chishti stayed in Gaharpur and contributed to the spread of Islam. Also, in 1956, Maulana Nur Uddin Gaharpuri established Gaharpur Hussainiya Madrasa, which is currently known as one of the main Qawmi Madrasas in Bangladesh. 

History of Balaganj and Location of Gaharpur

Balaganj Upazila is an important administrative area of ​​Sylhet district. It was established as a Thana in 1882 and was elevated to an Upazila in 1982. The name Balaganj is derived from the words ‘Bala’ (strength) and ‘Ganj’ (market). Gaharpur is an area under this upazila, which is located on the banks of the Kushiyara River. 

Importance of the Qorbani Garur Haat

The Qorbani Garur Haat of Gaharpur is an important commercial center for local farmers, ranchers and traders. Every year before Eid-ul-Azha, cattle are brought to this haat from different places and a large amount of trade is done. This haat plays an important role in the local economy and serves as a source of livelihood for many people.

গহরপুর-বালাগঞ্জ, সিলেটের কোরবানি গরুর হাট একটি ঐতিহ্যবাহী ও গুরুত্বপূর্ণ পশুর হাট হিসেবে পরিচিত। প্রতি বছর ঈদুল আযহার আগে এই হাটে ব্যাপক সংখ্যক কোরবানির পশু কেনাবেচা হয়, যা স্থানীয় অর্থনীতিতে গুরুত্বপূর্ণ ভূমিকা পালন করে।

গহরপুরের ঐতিহাসিক পটভূমি

গহরপুর অঞ্চলটি ইসলামী ইতিহাসে গুরুত্বপূর্ণ স্থান দখল করে আছে। ১৩০৩ সালে হযরত শাহ জালালের সঙ্গীরা সিলেটে আগমন করেন এবং ইসলাম প্রচার করেন। তাঁদের মধ্যে শাহ আজিজ চিশতী গহরপুরে অবস্থান করেন এবং ইসলাম প্রচারে অবদান রাখেন । এছাড়াও, ১৯৫৬ সালে মাওলানা নূর উদ্দিন গহরপুরি গহরপুর হুসাইনিয়া মাদ্রাসা প্রতিষ্ঠা করেন, যা বর্তমানে বাংলাদেশের অন্যতম প্রধান কওমি মাদ্রাসা হিসেবে পরিচিত ।

বালাগঞ্জের ইতিহাস ও গহরপুরের অবস্থান

বালাগঞ্জ উপজেলা সিলেট জেলার একটি গুরুত্বপূর্ণ প্রশাসনিক এলাকা। এটি ১৮৮২ সালে থানা হিসেবে প্রতিষ্ঠিত হয় এবং ১৯৮২ সালে উপজেলা হিসেবে উন্নীত হয়। বালাগঞ্জের নামের উৎপত্তি হয়েছে ‘বালা’ (শক্তি) এবং ‘গঞ্জ’ (বাজার) শব্দ থেকে । গহরপুর এই উপজেলার অন্তর্গত একটি এলাকা, যা কুশিয়ারা নদীর তীরে অবস্থিত।

কোরবানি গরুর হাটের গুরুত্ব

গহরপুরের কোরবানি গরুর হাট স্থানীয় কৃষক, খামারি এবং ব্যবসায়ীদের জন্য একটি গুরুত্বপূর্ণ বাণিজ্যিক কেন্দ্র। প্রতি বছর ঈদুল আযহার আগে এই হাটে বিভিন্ন স্থান থেকে গবাদি পশু নিয়ে আসা হয় এবং ব্যাপক পরিমাণে কেনাবেচা হয়। এই হাট স্থানীয় অর্থনীতিতে গুরুত্বপূর্ণ ভূমিকা পালন করে এবং অনেক মানুষের জীবিকার উৎস হিসেবে কাজ করে।
