Gospel of john 9

To me it is kind of strange that of all things that a chapter of the Bible could cover, the whole chapter is about one miracle and then how people respond to it. To try and imagine being there when it happened. You would think everyone would be thrilled at the fact that this man that was born blind could now see. One of the things that this chapter teaches is that no matter how much some people see God working, they refuse to believe. At the end of the chapter notice the fear that religion can put in people. The Blind mans parents could not even be happy for the miracle that happened to there son because it would affect there position in the religious group!


By now we should be seeing a pattern that I believe is true. Religion (what man teaches about God) is an enemy of Christianity (what God teaches about God). To get the most out of this, read the whole chapter before filling in any blanks and then go back and read through again as you pay special attention to the words that must be written. All answers are from a King James Bible.



John Chapter 9
A Continuing Hatred for no Good Reason


Verse 1-7 A Blind Man Gets His Sight . . . What Could Be Better?


1) Look in verse 2 . . . ___________ did ______________, this man, or his parents, that he was born blind?
(Many people think that Sin has to be the reason that “bad” things happen)


2) Look in verse 3. . .but that the __________ of ___________should be made__________________ in him.
(Sin can cause troubles, but sometimes troubles are to glorify God (see digging deeper)


3) Look in verse 6. . . he ___________ on the ground, and made ____________ of the spittle, and he anointed the eyes of the blind man with the clay,
(This always seemed strange to me. I mean imagine what took place here. God can use strange things)




Verse 8-12 The News Gets Around . . . After All, He was Blind All of His Life


4) Look in verse 11 . . . A _____________that is called Jesus made clay, and anointed mine eyes,….
(At this point all the blind man knows is that a “some man” did this. Knowing Jesus only by name)


Verse 13-34 Religions Response . . . Condemning, Since they Hate the Truth if it conflicts with religion


5) Look in verse 15 . . . the ________________________ also asked him how he had received his sight. He said unto them, He put clay upon mine eyes, and I washed, and do see.
(Notice, they are asking to find out the details, only to find a way to “get Jesus”)
(Where is religions “joy” over this great thing that God has done?)


6) Look in verse 16 . . . This man is not of God, because he keepeth not the sabbath day. Others said, How can a man that is a sinner do such miracles? And there was a ___________________among them.
(There is always division between religion ((mans thoughts)) and God.) See Romans 3:4


7) Look in verse 17...What sayest thou of him, that he hath opened thine eyes? He said, He is a _____________.
(First He said He is a man and now a prophet. He is understanding a little more as he goes)



Verse 35-38 The Ultimate Goal . . . Has Nothing to do with Religion . . . But the Salvation of a Soul




8) Look in verse 22 . . . These words spake his parents, because they _____________ the ________: for the Jews had agreed already, that if any man did confess that he was Christ, he should be put out of the synagogue.
(Beware, sometimes we wont say something because we know someone else believes different)


9) Look in verse 24 . . . Give ________ the ______________: we know that this man is a sinner.
(Imagine what “religion” is doing here. Making it sound spiritual to deny God)


10) Look in verse 25 . . . one thing I ______________, that, whereas I was _____________, now I __________.
(From the formerly blind mans perspective, facts are facts and the religious can’t change that)


11) Look in verse 34 . . . Thou wast altogether ___________ in __________, and dost thou teach us?
(God has already clearly stated that sin was not the problem ((look in verse 3)) yet religion will say whatever they can just to have there way instead of Gods way. Let God be right)


Verse 39-41 The Only Thing Sadder than A Blind man that can not See is a Seeing Man that is Blind.
Think about this verse below compared to John chapter 9. Religion is often filled with spiritually blind people leading spiritually blind people. These spiritually blind Pharisees were denying to accept what Jesus had done, and condemning people that do believe.
Matthew 15:14 Let them alone: they be blind leaders of the blind. And if the blind lead the blind, both shall fall into the ditch.




Never bow to or worship a man …. Acts 10:25-26 … Acts 14:11-15
Never bow or worship an angel …….Revelation 19:10; 22:8-9
Never bow to or worship Satan (He does desire worship that Belongs to God only) …Matthew 4:8-10
Never bow to or worship an image, statue or man made object …. Exo. 20:40-5; Psa 115:4-8; 1 Cor 10:14
