On Saturday, October 22, 2022, the Catalina Museum for Art & History celebrated the openings of two new exhibitions - "Crossing Waters: Contemporary Tongva Artists Carrying Pimugna" and "Tall Tiki Tales: Catalina as a South Seas Island" together in one evening.
Throughout the evening, the three artists featured in "Crossing Waters" - Weshoyot Alvitre, Mercedes Dorame and River Garza - shared insights into their work and answered questions from attendees. Guest Curator of the "Tall Tiki Tales" exhibition Sven Kirsten and Deputy Director and Chief Curator Johnny Sampson shared stories and highlights about the exhibit in the John and Hasmik Mgrdichian Gallery.
All guests enjoyed live music by the Hula Girls, a Polynesian-inspired buffet dinner, and rum drinks by exhibition sponsor Deadhead Rum.
