Preparing the SS United States "Big U" for Sinking by Okaloosa County. 3D

The SS United States was once the floating pride of a nation — a symbol of speed, power, and engineering greatness. But today, it lies rusting and forgotten, quietly awaiting its fate.

This 3D animation shows a symbolic yet inevitable scene: the removal of its two funnels and radar mast, as if the ship itself were saying goodbye to the world it once crossed at record speed.

This is not a celebration, nor mockery, nor disrespect. It's a moment to accept that not everything can be saved. Even giants must fall so that something new may rise.

The ship was acquired by Okaloosa County, with plans to sink it and turn it into the largest artificial reef ever made. And while it will no longer sail, perhaps its purpose is not yet over: it will give life — not above, but below.

Maybe it's hard to accept. Maybe it hurts. But at least, its story won’t be forgotten. And as it sinks, with dignity, we will remember it for what it once was, not for what it became.
