It’s no secret that Disney has been one of the biggest names in animation for a century. Longtime Disney fans will remember the famous “golden age’ that gave us classics like Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, Babmi and Dumbo. Modern fans are still living in Disney’s success with the revival era that bred new iconic flicks like Frozen, Encanto and Big Hero 6. Whether you're a fan or a critic, there’s no denying the star power that Disney has when it comes to making some of the most timeless animated films ever.

But with so many years in the movie-making business, it can’t always be smooth sailing. We’ve looked into Disney’s history and, boy, it hasn’t always been so smooth. Becoming a pioneer for new animation styles, genres and ideas means taking a few gambles along the way. But it also means paying the price and facing a few major flops at the box office.
