KEB F5 Elevator Drive Training: R6 Regen Units (Part 15)

This part 15 of the KEB Elevator Drive training focuses on the KEB R6 Line Regen Units. Tyler, first explains the basics of electric motors and the power loss that occurs when in a generating operation. Elevator motors are a prime candidate for regen drives because electric motors have bi-directional power flow. He also talks about elevator applications that would see the most benefit from a regen drive. The best scenarios for regenerative drives are Permanent Motor (PM) AC gearless applications and High speed or high efficiency AC geared machines. The height of the building also plays a part in how quickly a building can make back their investment in a regen drive. This plays into potential energy and the taller the building, the more potential a system has in gravitational and kinetic Energy.
