A Year and a Half Alone Fixing a Sailboat in the Woods | Year One Recap

This is the first year and a half of the rest of my life.

One night while I was looking for patio furniture on Marketplace for my tiny apartment, I came across a listing that wound up completely changing the course of my life. Fast forward to the spring of 2024, and I was dragging a 20,000lb half-rotten wooden sailboat into the woods on my friends' land in Atlantic Canada where we'll stay until I can get her seaworthy again. At first I could only work on the project part time, working odd jobs during the day to make some money, and working on my shelter and the boat in the evenings and weekends. I had spent everything I had on the boat, the move, a small power bank, some lumber, a microphone and some editing software.

Over the course of the last 18 months I've built a home for both me and the boat, gotten to know some of the local forest creatures, stripped paint, battled epoxy, torn out rotten plywood, vacuumed a ton of debris, and much more. Now, I have the foundations laid to start accelerating the work - plus, thanks to my supporters on Patreon, PayPal and Ko-Fi, I'm able to work on the project full time.
