When I was little, I used to promise myself:
When I grow up, I’ll stay far away from alcohol, cigarettes… and even coffee.
Those were the things grown-ups turned to whenever they were tired.
Back then, I believed if I avoided them, I could keep that childlike joy forever.

Now that I’m older, I’ve kept my word with the first three —
but coffee… that one got me.

I’m not sure when it started.
But somewhere along the way, a warm cup of coffee in the morning became a quiet ritual to begin the day.
Not because I’m addicted to caffeine, but because I need that moment — that small stillness, when the ceramic is warm in my hands and everything inside my chest finally settles down.

This morning was no different.
I sat out on the balcony, leaning into an old wicker chair, letting the wind run through my hair.
The mountains in front of me were still half-asleep, the mist not yet gone, the birds already singing.
Sunlight had just touched the edge of the table, waking up bursts of flowers like they, too, had just opened their eyes.

I took a slow sip of coffee — like I was having a conversation with myself.

Turns out, growing up doesn’t mean becoming as strong as I once dreamed.
Sometimes, just being gentle enough to keep going — day by day, morning by morning — is already a kind of courage.
