Hey there, gaming enthusiasts!

Today I bring you a GPU that for the first time I felt a huge jump in performance. This was my first truly high-performance "gamer" graphics card and it was truly one of the biggest innovations of 2009, the introduction of DirectX 11.

In addition to being a successful launch, it offered a very good game that used Direct X 11 technologies, the Colin Mcrae DiRT 2. When the Gpu came out many started to compare it's design to the classic 1960s Batmobile car. For me it was a tremendous leap in terms of performance, as I went from a Nvidia 8800 GTS with 640MB, to this monster, it was truly a very significant leap !!

The Radeon HD 5870 was a high-end graphics card by ATI, launched on September 23rd, 2009. Built on the 40 nm process, and based on the Cypress graphics processor, in its Cypress XT variant, the card supports DirectX 11.2. The Cypress graphics processor is a large chip with a die area of 334 mm² and 2,154 million transistors. It features 1600 shading units, 80 texture mapping units, and 32 ROPs. ATI has paired 1,024 MB GDDR5 memory with the Radeon HD 5870, which are connected using a 256-bit memory interface. The GPU is operating at a frequency of 850 MHz, memory is running at 1200 MHz (4.8 Gbps effective).
Being a dual-slot card, the ATI Radeon HD 5870 draws power from 2x 6-pin power connectors, with power draw rated at 188 W maximum. Display outputs include: 2x DVI, 1x HDMI 1.3a, 1x DisplayPort 1.1. Radeon HD 5870 is connected to the rest of the system using a PCI-Express 2.0 x16 interface. The card's dimensions are 280 mm x 111 mm x 37 mm, and it features a dual-slot cooling solution. Its price at launch was 399 US Dollars.
