University High School and Venado Middle School in Irvine, California and is home to Deaf and Hard of Hearing students from 27 districts across Orange County. Our program is a part of The Orange County Department of Education.. We have a proud tradition of offering outstanding academic programs and providing equal access to athletics, activities, and opportunities of all kinds. In that spirit, we took on a very special project this year. Our program is pleased to be able to present to you our signature video for the 2016-2017 school year—BRAVE!
Guided by Deaf filmmaker Stacy Lawrence, our students wrote, produced, directed and acted in their very own music video. They chose the song “Brave” by Sara Bareilles—a song that embodies their collective belief that Deaf people can do anything. The video is a testimony to their empowerment as individuals and as artists.
We believe BRAVE showcases the best of the DHH program at University High School and Venado Middle School.
And perhaps, not coincidentally, there is no better word than “brave” to describe our students.
The journey of the Deaf child is unlike any in the human experience. These amazing kids show courage, grit, and grace every day. We would like to dedicate this video to all Deaf and Hard of Hearing students and their families everywhere.
It is our sincere hope that, as you view this video, you will be inspired by these students to be…BRAVE.
Enjoy the video,

Lyrics
Brave
Sara Bareilles
You can be amazing
You can turn a phrase into a weapon or a drug
You can be the outcast
Or be the backlash of somebody's lack of love
Or you can start speaking up
Nothing's gonna hurt you the way that words do
And they settle 'neath your skin
Kept on the inside and no sunlight
Sometimes a shadow wins
But I wonder what would happen if you
Say what you wanna say
And let the words fall out
Honestly I wanna see you be brave
With what you want to say
And let the words fall out
Honestly I wanna see you be brave
I just wanna see you
I just wanna see you
I just wanna see you
I wanna see you be brave
I just wanna see you
I just wanna see you
I just wanna see you
I wanna see you be brave
Everybody's been there, everybody's been stared down
By the enemy
Fallen for the fear and done some disappearing
Bow down to the mighty
Don't run, stop holding your tongue
Maybe there's a way out of the cage where you live
Maybe one of these days you can let the light in
Show me how big your brave is
Say what you wanna say
And let the words fall out
Honestly I wanna see you be brave
With what you want to say
And let the words fall out
Honestly I wanna see you be brave
Innocence, your history of silence
Won't do you any good
Did you think it would?
Let your words be anything but empty
Why don't you tell them the truth?
Say what you wanna say
And let the words fall out
Honestly I wanna see you be brave
With what you want to say
And let the words fall out
Honestly I wanna see you be brave
I just wanna see you
I just wanna see you
I just wanna see you
I wanna see you be brave
I just wanna see you
I just wanna see you
I just wanna see you
See you be brave
I just wanna see you
I just wanna see you
I just wanna see you
I just wanna see you
I just wanna see you
I just wanna see you
