Man is the maintainer, and maintenance is a big part of what I do. Today I got a chance to test out my DIY Vintage 12 inch speaker driver repair. It was on an old Mckenzie 12 inch driver, that I've had for 30 odd years from my soundsystem days with Superclick Sound back in the 1990s. The 12 inch was suffering from a detached cone, right at the back, where it meets the spider (the thing that suspends the cone to the back of the driver unit) and as a result it was reproducing bass that sounded extremely flappy.
Since I couldn't find a recone kit for this old model of speaker driver anywhere online, (it's probably just too old) I decided to just try glueing it, which should work as the cone is just stiffened paper. Anyway, I didn't record the glueing bit, (which it turns out I should have) as I thought it would be boring watching glue dry, but, as a consolation, I did remember to film the testing bit, which is what this video is all about. So here I am… Manz in his Skylab, bussin chooone… and what a chooone too!… [Stalag 17]
Did the repair work?… What you waiting for?… Press the play button and find out! Don't say I don't do anything for ya! Enjoy… 😎
ps. I know I haven't uploaded anything in a while, but I've got something in the pipeline, so stand-by… LifeAndTimesOfaMMM
