Eating raw oysters are not safe for everyone and few points to identify a good oysters
Shell Inspection:
Intact Shell: Look for a shell without any cracks, breaks, or visible openings.
Color: Healthy shells are glossy white with pink and grey streaks. Avoid discolored shells with greenish or brownish hues.
Tap Test: Tap one oyster against another or use an oyster knife. A fresh, alive oyster will produce a solid, stone-like sound, while a spoiled one might sound hollow or have visible openings.
Oyster Meat:
Appearance:Fresh oysters have plump, glossy, light tan meat, surrounded by their own liquor.
Avoid:Dry, withered, or cloudy meat indicates a spoiled oyster. Contaminated oysters may have grey, brown, black, or pinkish hues.
Smell Test:
Aroma:Fresh oysters smell pleasant and briny, reminiscent of the ocean, not fishy.
