The Ballari firing case triggered a major political showdown on Thursday as the BJP organised a massive protest in the mining hub district. Condemning the January 1 clash and firing incident, BJP leaders alleged an attempt to murder Janardhana Reddy and accused the Congress-led Karnataka government of failing to maintain law and order.

The protest, held at the APMC grounds, saw the Reddy brothers and B Sriramulu coming together on one platform, signalling political unity. BJP leaders demanded a CBI or judicial inquiry into the firing case, claiming that law and order has collapsed in the state. Over 25,000 party workers were expected to participate in the demonstration.

In view of the large gathering, authorities deployed heavy security, including senior IPS officers, women police units, KSRP, DAR platoons, and over a thousand police personnel to prevent any untoward incidents.
