When I travel, I create a Lightroom catalog for the trip. Once I return home, I merge that with my main catalog on my primary computer. In this video, I walk through the process that I use to import the photos from one catalog to another.
This process allows me to keep up with my photos as I travel reducing the amount of work that I need to do once I get home. It also reduces the risk of something happening to my primary computer.
