Badrinath
Badrinath is located in garhwal hill tracks in chamoli dist. along the banks of Alakananda river.
The temple is dedicated to Bhagwan Vishnu. According to hindu legend, the Bhagwan Vishnu sat in meditation at this place. During his meditation Vishnu was unaware of cold weather. Lakshmi protected him in the form of the Badri tree. Pleased by the devotion of Laxmi , Vishnu named the place Badrika Ashram.
Badrinath was re-established as a major pilgrimage site by Adi Shankaracharya in 8th century.
Mana Village
Mana is a village in the dist of Chamoli in Uttarakhand. Mana is the last village before the Mana Pass and is 26 km from the border of India and Tibet. The village is at a distance of about 3 km from Badrinath. And the two places are culturally connected with each other.
During winter months, the entire population comes down to lower places, as the area is covered under snow.
There is small cave in Mana, named Vyas Gufa and it is believed that Maharshi Vyas composed Mahabharat in this cave.
It is believed that The Pandav passed through Mana Village when their final journey to heaven. The place also has a stone bridge near the Saraswati river, called Bheem Pul, which is believed to be created by Bhee
