CHAMBER MUSIC CONCERT SERIES, 2016
"VLADIMIR MENDELSSOHN & FRIENDS"
Famous violist Vladimir Mendelssohn and internationally acclaimed pianist George Emmanuel Lazaridis, alongside a team of distinguished musicians from Greece, gave a memorable concert at the Thessaloniki Concert Hall “Megaro”, on Monday 29 February 2016.
This video presents an excerpt from this legendary concert.
The chamber music ensemble, herewith performing the third movement of Brahms’ famous piano quintet in F minor, Opus 34, also consists of two important Greek soloists with notable international careers: violinist George Kandilidis and cellist Christos Grimpas.
Moreover, violist Pavlos Metaxas joined the second half of the concert, for Brahms’ magnificent string sextet No.2, Opus 36.
This concert also included selected members of MOYSA, Megaro’s highly acclaimed Youth Symphony Orchestra, which consists of young Greek musicians between 8 and 25 years of age. The Orchestra was founded by G.E.Lazaridis and his colleagues and friends at the Thessaloniki Concert Hall, in March 2015, under the auspices of the TCH Organisation and with the support of the Niarchos Foundation.
This remarkable orchestra has already collaborated with international orchestras, soloists and conductors. Side-by-side concerts have included the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra, the Cameristi del Teatro all Scala, the EUYO, the Prague Symphony Orchestra, the State Orchestras of Thessaloniki and Athens and many more. Moysa has been directed by Daniele Gatti, Li Biao, Dariusz Mikoulski, Miltos Logiadis, Yuri Azevedo, Vladimir Symeonidis, Michalins Economou and Zoe Zeniodi, amongst many others. It has also performed with various international soloists including Vadim Repin, Simos Papanas, G.E. Lazaridis, Maria Asteriadou, Hao Yilei etc. The Orchestra's mentor and chief conductor since 2015, is Theodor Papadimitriou - a uniquely gifted musician whose strong personality has already inspired and shaped the musical perception of more than 150 orchestra members.
Aiming towards the best possible education for young local musicians, Lazaridis and his colleagues constantly seek opportunities to create inspiring collaborative projects involving members of MOYSA. Within this frame and after relevant auditions, the following young musicians were selected to join the above concert on February 29: Maria Tsogia Razakova (violin), Kirillos Kosmidis (violin), George Sotiroudis (violin) and Efstratia Haloulakou (cello).
