I misspoke when I said cage rotors do not have slanted bars - most cage rotors do indeed have skewed bars and that is to help minimize some of the higher-order harmonics induced in the stator windings.
Furthermore, I said at the end there that the only rotors that have windings that run parallel to the rotor axle are wound induction rotors and DC rotors, but I should have also mentioned that cylindrical (nonsalient pole) rotors also obviously have windings that run along the axis of the rotor. Furthermore, some DC rotors do actually have salient poles (though that's pretty rare but there's one in the lab I believe that is like this).
