Mrs. Naumi Cherono Chumo was born in 1936 to the late Mr. Daudi Kirui and Mrs. Elizabeth Kirui of Tulwetab Mosonik village in Bomet. She was blessed with five children—Rebecca, Julius, Weldon, the late Clare, and Geoffrey. Her siblings included the late Mary Ngasura, late Sarah Tuei, late Ludia Langat, late Annah Koech, Mark Chumo, and late Miriam Tele. Naumi was raised in a disciplined, respectful, and kind home, with a strict and principled father who emphasized honor and moral values. She started her education at Chebonei (Kotab Tibik), where missionaries like Ambassador Ernest Langat and Ludia mentored her and introduced her to faith. It was here that she gave her life to Jesus and was later baptized. She married the late Albert Chumo in a mission-led wedding, cherishing moments like borrowing a gold necklace from a teacher for the ceremony. Together, they joined Aisaik Africa Gospel Church, where Naumi served faithfully as a treasurer. Later, they moved to Litein and joined AIC Litein Church, enduring challenges and misunderstandings between AIC and AGC until a letter from Rev. Johana Chesengeny clarified their unity in belief. She worshiped actively and sang in church with her sister-in-law and friends, eventually settling in Kusumek and becoming a founding member and treasurer of AIC Kusumek Church. Naumi served in various capacities up to district and regional levels, working closely with many devoted women of faith. Her love for Jesus was evident in all she did, frequently saying, “Jesus is the sweetest name I know,” and encouraging others with her last message: “Live well.” Despite a long medical history, including tuberculosis in the 1960s, high blood pressure from 1982, surgeries, and a hip replacement in 2014, Naumi remained strong in faith and disciplined in her care. She eventually became bedridden and passed away peacefully on July 16, 2025, due to age-related heart failure. Her daughter Rebecca, now 68, described her as a gentle, wise, loving, and principled woman whose words and actions inspired all. Julius, her son, remembered her nurturing, protective, and spiritually guiding nature. Weldon’s family called her a pillar, grateful for her wisdom and God-first mindset. Daughters-in-law appreciated her open-hearted welcome, agricultural teachings, and concern for family nourishment and time. Her grandchildren recalled her generosity, support during school terms, and values of love and industry. June Cherono compared her to a burning library, mourning the loss of her stories, wisdom, and heritage. The children of Kap Ernest celebrated her warmth, attentiveness, hard work, and spiritual example. Her church described her as a co-founder, leader, treasurer, and mentor whose guidance and hymn No. 143 left a lasting impact. She was active in church even when bedridden and helped build a spiritual foundation that expanded into other churches. The family extended their deepest appreciation to all who supported them with presence, prayers, and kindness, asking God to abundantly bless every one of them.
