HALO Cosplay Helmet Mold Part 2: Resin Mother Mold

Important! I made this mold using Platinum silicone. TC-5130F is a 1:1 25A Platinum silicone that works well for this application and it is a platinum formula. For this mother-mold/support shell I used a brushable resin: BR-75D. This is a self thickening resin formula that has a 7-8 minute working time and a 2-3 hour demold. Remember that thinner cross-sections of resin will take longer to cure than thicker sections. I used a foam core splitter board to divide the two halves of the mold and sculpted the clay keys with Protolina Plastalina from Van Aken. I applied the first layer of BR-75D as it comes from the manufacturer. I thickened the 2nd layer with FiberThick thickener to create a thick, frosting-like paste. I did mixed up a 3rd batch to cover any thin spots and also thickened that batch with FiberThick. Adding FiberThick prevents slumping when you are building up a thicker cross-section.
